She is totally uninterested in the warren of flower and herb eating rabbits living in the ivy groundcover at the base of my maple tree. Likewise with squirrels that eat my tomatoes.
Today I picked her up and threw her (more like a gentle toss) at the rabbits, she finally seemed to notice them, but after one chatter and a threatening pose, she seemed to go vacant once again. The rabbit moved 5 feet.
what can I do to make her into a ferocious chaser of small animals? How do I train my cat to chase unwanted wildlife out of my yard?
Hang a sirloin around the rabbits neck...That around do the trick. How do I train my cat to chase unwanted wildlife out of my yard?
We wanted our cats to catch mice in the house. So if we caught a mouse in the trap we would make them really want it then let them play with it. Now there frocious mouse killers. I know thats just mice but if you get there prey drive up they will kill any small animals. You could get feeder mice from the pet store also. I now it sounds cruel but if you really NEED her to do it it could help. But if your cat doesn't seem interested at all there may not be anything you can do. I suuggest you get a dog to guard your property. Or better yet, enjoy the wildlife while we still have it.
You do not want her to act on her predatory senses. She may get bitten by a rabid squirrel or rabbit. Not a good idea. It is a very bad idea to suggest you stop feeding your domestic animal,as someone suggested. She depends on you for food and cannot fend for herself in the wild. Just do what I do, fence your garden off so that rabbits cannot get into it. I love growing tomatoes too. Maybe a dog that barks would frighten the small critters more?Maybe you should consider a dog since they are easier to train? Cats are far too stubborn. I have cats who are afraid of mice! They have lost their ability to think like wildcats and have been reduced to wonderful house cats! Although I do have a cat who my husband trained to fetch like a dog. The poor cat thinks he is canine!:) I do think a fence would be a big help as far as rabbits are concerned. I wish you the best!
Haha, I don't think you can. She just sounds very lazy :p
Like people, all cats have different personalities.
Maybe you can get get her a toy rabbit/squirrel, attach it to some string with a treat on the end and get to to chase it...Let her win every now and then so she gets the treat.
Apart from that...Get another cat!
You are not serious I hope. The reason cats are hated so much is that they kill large amounts of wildlife. You should enjoy that wildlife comes into your garden I certainly would love to see rabbits etc in mine.
I love my two cats, but don't let them outside simply so that they cannot kill wildlife.
Unfortunately, the only way to train a cat to chase those animals away is to feed the particular animal to the cat with nothing else to eat. The cat has to acquire a taste for it.
Trouble is it may work and it may not.
you can not train a cat to do that!
It really depends on the breed of the cat. Some are gentle and some are ANGRY! But maybe this cat was not a hunter.
If she doesn't do it naturally, it probably won't happen.
More than one cat usually stimulates their stalking sense.
