What is the first step to helping conserve wildlife in countries abroad?

Like in Cambodia and Africa. How can I help? What is the first step to helping conserve wildlife in countries abroad?
I don't know too much about this, but I'd say one of the best things you can do is donate to organizations like the World Wildlife Fund. You can donate money outright, get involved with some of their bigger programs, or symbolically 'adopt' an animal, where you send, $25, $50, $75, or $100 specifically for helping that species, and they send you a picture and certificate, and (depending on the amount) a stuffed animal of it. Or you can choose not to get any of this to maximize your donation.

Click on the link, and it will take you to WWF's adoption center. They have something like 90 animal choices. You can click on the picture and read about them and where they live, so you can choose the ones in Africa if you want. They also have it where you can sort the animals by most endangered. I have donated a total of $175 to them, and have come to see they really are an excellent organization with helping animals. Good Luck and good for you for wanting to help! What is the first step to helping conserve wildlife in countries abroad?

If your visiting, try eating what the locals eat. I'd assume they will first offer you the most expensive item, meaning it is quite rare in those parts and could be a source of environmental degradation.
take a look at this page...it's a volunteer site that offers conservation expeditions all over the world
