What would you call an ocean wildlife profession?

I want to work with marine life and/or wildlife, as in rescuing and preserving species. I graduate next may and I don't know what to study in college for this kind of profession or even what the correct name for it would be. Also how much is the average income for this kind of job and what location worldwide would be best?

Thanks, answers are appreciated :)What would you call an ocean wildlife profession?
Marine Biologist. What would you call an ocean wildlife profession?
There are many professionals working as you describe. You could research marine biologist, which includes a vast field of knowledge.

You could also specialize and work as a marine mammologist (working specifically with marine mammals like dolphins, whales, seals, etc.). I think this would be an exciting career but the number of jobs versus the number of applicants is quite different. You may choose to work with invertebrates and specialize even further and study sponges of the world. There are so many to discover!

With so many baby boomers retiring in the up-and-coming years there should be openings in most fields.

You have time for research. Try the link I have mentioned. Talk to people in the field and ask lots of questions. If you don't live near the ocean you will have to move. I believe once you have your training in what ever field you choose you will then decide where to work and live. Wages will differ depending on where you live, especially if you work in other countries. You don't mention in what country you live, I am assuming the USA. You can train in many countries. Canada offers great programs.

I hope this helps and good luck to you.
You should be a marine biologist. I have always wanted to be one. The ocean is in terrible danger! Already half the worlds coral has disappeared. We rely on the ocean for a countless number of things....

A good place to study is some where on the coast where you can get a degree in marine biology.
The job title you are looking for is marine biologist. There are many subfields of marine biology. Most involve studying specializations of particular animal groups. (i.e. phycology, invertebrate zoology and ichthyology).

Marine biologists make around 40,000 dollars to 200,000 dollars.

As for locations I believe anywhere where there is water and marine life. There a quite alot of studies and research being done now in places where there are reefs (i.e Great Barrier Reef). The tropics would be a good place since there are many tropical reefs in those areas. Hope this helps.
marine biologist. i'm going to school in the fall and i am looking into similar professions. i decided to get a degree in general biology and then head off to grad school to specialize (i'm leaning towards ornithology).

i think the general biology degree will give me the most options right out of school, and then having a graduate degree always helps you make more money, if that's what you're concerned with.

as for job locations, there is wildlife all around the world so the possibilities are really quite endless :)

i hope it works out for you.
